Class Two

Class 2 are taught by Mrs Walsh

Welcome back!

Our topic this term is ‘Around The World in 80 Days’.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday and enjoyed some of the lovely weather. We are starting a new topic this term which you will find more details of below. However, the children have one last thing they would like to do before we put the Roald Dahl books back in the library. The children spent some of last term learning songs for a Little Red Riding Hood musical based on the Revolting Rhymes written by Roald Dahl. The children performed the musical in front of the rest of the school and Mrs Trigg before she left. They have asked me if they can perform this musical once more in front of their parents. So on Friday 5th May 2017, class 2 will perform Little Red Riding Hood, The Musical, to all of the class 2 parents at 9:30am in the school hall.I have asked children to decide on their costume over the school holiday and bring it in to school as soon as possible in a named carrier bag.

Thank you for your contributions towards the trip to the Roald Dahl gallery last term. I know the children really enjoyed it. Please click on the link below to see some photos of the day.

On the last day of term, you should have received your child’s school report. If you want to raise any questions regarding this report then please feel free to sign up for a parents meeting on either Wednesday 26th April or Thursday 27th April.

Thank you for sending children’s book bags in daily. Every child should now have a reading book which they can change on any morning during the week. Class 2 will continue have PE on  a Thursday afternoon but please can children bring a named PE kit in every day so we can always make the most of the outside area. This term the children will be playing tennis  with Ignite Sports and Y4 will be swimming every Tuesday with Mrs Lappin. Y3 will be orienteering and team building with Mrs Foster.

Children are allowed to bring in a healthy snack to eat at break-time. Please could children put their fruit in their drawer first thing in the morning so they can retrieve it easily at break time. The children may also purchase items from our school tuck shop to eat or drink in the playground. Children must also bring in a named water bottle which they can access throughout the day.

The children in class two are encouraged to work together in groups and  keeping the classroom and school rules. Good work and behaviour will be rewarded with coloured tokens for their house during assembly times. The children should know the colour of their house and families should be grouped in the same colour. The children are now enjoying playing the ‘class game’ which is a reward system that earns them an extra reward for working as a team to complete work and follow class/school rules. As part of the new behaviour policy in school, children new to class 2 will also be introduced to a ‘class target’ which will be zoned in three colours; green, amber and red. The children’s names will remain in the green zone if they stay on task and complete work. If a child receives three warnings for their behaviour in class then their name may need to enter the amber zone and a dialogue with an adult may be necessary to help them return to green. If this becomes a regular occurrence, then parents will be informed. The red zone will only be used in more extreme circumstances and parents would be informed and senior leadership involved. More details will be available on the school website shortly.

As always, we are willing to answer your queries and address any concerns. All teachers are available after school and special appointments can be made if parents can not make parents meetings this term.

Visit to the Devils Quoits in Stanton Harcourt.

We made our own stone circles out of biscuits.

We had fun outside pretending to be people from the Stone Age.

We created cave paintings from charcoal and natural materials from the school grounds.

We hunted for pretend wild animals with homemade spears.

Can you see the clay pots we made? We finished the day off with hot chocolate and rock cakes. This is class two toasting Miss Baldock on her last day at Stanton Harcourt School. She will be greatly missed by us all.
