Oxford & Cambridge Singing Summer School

Dear all,

We have approx 10 places left on the summer course at Merton College, Oxford on the 26-28th July 2017 and I would be most grateful if these details could be circulated.   Many thanks in advance of your help.

As you may know, the singing school was established to provide children with the opportunity to sing great classical music to a high standard in a relaxed and fun environment and to develop their confidence and ability in singing and performing. The course director is Dr Edward Wickham, Director of Music at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, where he founded the first College-based children’s girls choir in the country.  Our courses involve world-class teaching in the disciplines of choral music and are developed to inspire young musicians with classic choral repertoire in a way that is varied and rewarding. Children who attend our course often go on to be choristers, join choirs, sing better in their choirs, apply for music scholarships, do well with their ABRSM exams, etc.

Here is what is being said about us:

“How lucky are these young singers. They are brilliantly taught and have a lot of fun, and you will be amazed at what they achieve in just a few days – and all in the most beautiful surroundings.” Bob Chilcott – composer and parent of past attendee.

I loved every moment of the course. I sang ‘Panis Angelicus’, one of the pieces I learnt on your course as a solo at our school concert, and the Head of Music asked if I could sing it again at the school assembly in front of the whole school. Thank you….” Chloe – aged 11.

“Thank you for a wonderful week. My son thought it was fantastic, he loved the range of music and the coaches are all excellent. The week vastly increased his understanding of singing, reading choral music and performance – he has been wonderfully inspired!”

“My son loved every minute of it – the teachers, the location, the music and even the music theory!”

“Thank you…. Your course is the only thing my son sets his alarm for in the mornings. He loves it.”

Repertoire – we have some wonderful music planned, including some great works by Mendelssohn and Schubert. The repertoire will include Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’ and Mendelssohn’s ‘O for the Wings of a Dove‘ and ‘I waited for the Lord’, as well as some wonderful more modern works by Ben Parry.

This is available for those booking two or more of their children on to a full course. The second child is eligible for 10% discount and the third child is eligible for a 20% discount off the full course price.

Many thanks for any help you might be able to offer. Should you have any queries in the meantime, please let me know.

Very best wishes,

Samantha Wickham
