This week I wanted to share our wonderful visit to The Oxford Synagogue. Our speaker was so welcoming and gave us an in depth tour as well as sharing what it’s like to be part of the Jewish community. We learnt about the Jewish calendar and the many festivals they celebrate throughout the year. We also learnt about the origin of the Hebrew language and why their bibles appear backwards to us. Some children were asked to model traditional clothing that Jewish men and women wear to show respect to God, these included the prayer shawl and kippah. We discussed what we already knew about the Jewish faith from our learning in KS1 and what we have covered so far this term. The children were also given lots of opportunities to ask questions. We really enjoyed our visit and believe it is so important to learn about other faiths.
