We have had a fantastic first week back and the children have worked so hard in all areas of their learning. However, I wanted to focus this week’s post on their English work. We started the week by reading our new class text, ‘The Promise’ by Nicola Davies. The book is about a little girl whose life changes when she steals a bag of acorns and promises to plant them. We went on to learn about free-verse poetry and performed pieces to each other. We then drafted and edited our own poems based on acorns. The children then published these, thinking carefully about their presentation. We even used recycled paper, in keeping with the book’s message.
