This week we have been learning about people who help keep us safe, with a special focus on the police and firefighters.
We began the week by investigating a crime scene in our classroom! The children searched carefully for clues and used their thinking skills to wonder who the culprit might be. This led us to read our class text, The Red-Bottomed Robber, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. In writing, we used our inference skills to decide who we thought the robber could be and wrote a sentence to explain our ideas. In phonics, we have been learning the sounds /y/ for yellow and /z/ ‘zz’ for zebra and fizz.
In maths, we have been exploring the composition of 6 and 7, using the 5-and-a-bit structure to help us understand how numbers can be made in different ways. In art, we experimented with felt-tip pens, creating repeating patterns and exploring colour and design.
On Thursday, we were very lucky to have a special visitor. Mrs Hatt, a crime scene investigator, came to talk to us about her job. She showed us how fingerprints can be used to identify criminals, and we even had a go at printing our own fingerprints and looking closely at the different patterns on our fingers.
Have a great weekend!
