Welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic half term.
We have loved starting our brand new topic, ‘Big City’ this week.
To begin, we explored the question: What is a city? We talked about the features of a city and discovered that cities are very big places with lots of buildings, roads, shops, offices and people. We learned that London is a city in the United Kingdom and found it on Google Maps! We zoomed in and out to see just how big it is, and then compared it to Stanton Harcourt.
In maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers using Alphablocks – Flat Tops and Odd Blocks. We discovered that an even number can be split into equal groups of two, with no leftovers.
This week in phonics we have been learning two new digraphs:
- ‘ch’ as in chick.
- ‘sh’ as in sheep.
We have been spotting these sounds in words, reading them in our books and practising writing them in our independent work.
In RE, we have begun thinking about spring as we move towards Easter. We went on a spring hunt around school to look for signs of the new season. In PSHE, we discussed how to keep ourselves healthy. We talked about why exercise is important, how it keeps our hearts strong and helps us feel good.
We have been enjoying our class story, ‘A Bear Called Paddington’ by Michael Bond.
The children created a story map to help us retell the story and remember the key events. In our writing sessions, we helped Paddington get ready for his adventure by packing a suitcase for him, thinking carefully about what he might need in a big city like London!
We have had a great start to our term, everyone has worked so hard! Have a great weekend!
