Welcome back and Happy New Year! We’ve had a snowy first week back and it has been lovely to see the children return so settled and ready to learn.
We’ve started our new topic ‘People Who Help Us’ (please look out for the letter coming home), and the children have been really engaged. Our story of the week has been Clothes Line Clues for Jobs People Do, which sparked lots of discussion and fantastic inference skills as the children used clues to work out different jobs. We also enjoyed talking about what we would like to be when we’re older – lots of zookeepers and teachers!
In maths, we have been recapping the cardinal principle – learning that the order of counting doesn’t change the total and exploring why this is the case. The children particularly enjoyed building number stairs to show numbers increasing by one.
In phonics, we have been learning the sounds /j/ for jug and /v/ for van, practising recognising and using these sounds in words.
Across their independent learning, the children have shown lots of creativity and independence. They’ve been interested in making their own books, using playdough to create cakes, and using paint to design beautiful snowy snowflakes inspired by the wintery weather.
A great start to the term, well done everyone!
Have a great weekend.
