Welcome to Early Years
Welcome to the Early Years! We have a great team here in the Den and Busy Bees. The EYFS teachers are Lucy McKay (full time) and Ellie Pascoe who works on Mondays and Fridays. We also have Michelle Archer, Julia Simmons and Sarah Holt who work in the Den.
Each pupil in EYFS is assigned a key person who observes and supports them in their learning journey. This information will be shared with you and is on display in the Den.
Please be free to speak to any of us at the end of the day or contact via email: email@example.com
What a busy week we’ve had! We practised our cutting skills as we made Diwali lanterns with Sue. We learned about Remembrance Day and all made a poppy to put next to the memorial. On Friday we took part in the Remembrance Service, we started in Newt Town and then walked to the memorial to put our poppies in the ground. Mrs Somley taught us about keeping the beat using the tambourine in Music. The Busy Bees sang the days of the week song and talked about daily routines.
It was lovely to see everyone back again! This week we started our new Topic – Follow the Star. The Bees enjoyed a collective worship at the church on Tuesday and we discussed our new value of the term – Respect. We learned about Guy Fawkes and made our own Bonfire Collages. Lots of us were very excited about Halloween and we even made some of our potions in the outdoor area. Michelle set up a new Light Cave under the tower and we can’t wait to try it out.
WELCOME BACK TO TERM 2
We hope you all had a great October holiday and are refreshed for the exciting term ahead! We have got lots planned for this year including a Film Festival trip, Remembrance Day Event and taking part in the Christmas Nativity with Year 1/2. See below for the termly plan.
Forest School Term 1 Update
Warwick Children’s Play Village
We had a brilliant trip with the Bunnies and Busy Bees. Everyone was very well behaved and thoroughly enjoyed their time at the play village. Below are some photos of the children exploring the venue.
A big THANK YOU to all the parent helpers that joined us on the trip.
Week 4 – On Monday we all went to Prayer Space in Newt town where we thought about saying sorry in the sand, making happy decorations and creating pictures of nature. A big thanks to our visitors who organised this for us. The Busy Bees went to church on Tuesday for our collective worship assembly. We learned about our five senses this week. We decorated our own people using a range of different materials. With our Music teacher we learned about different sounds we can make with our body.
Week 3 – This week we set up a new construction area outside. We had a great time building houses and using pipes to make water chutes. We started ‘Talking Tuesday’ when the pupils can bring something in to share with the rest of the class. In our topic we looked a different emotions and when we might feel sad, happy etc. Everyone is enjoying going to Forest School on Fridays!
Week 2 – Our first full week! Some tired pupils by the end of the week but we had great fun! This week we set up our Baby Clinic and talked about how to care for babies. This linked well with our whole school focus on caring. We enjoyed a visit from the Happy Puzzle Company on Friday and tried out lots of different challenges.
Week 1 – The children have settled really well into their new routines. This week letters will be going home about Forest School which will run every Friday morning and letters about your child’s key person. I have attached a copy of the letters below.
Welcome back everyone. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 5th September. We hope you all had a restful and relaxing holiday. Thank you so much for all your kind words and presents at the end of last term, they were very much appreciated.
Term 1 – All About Me
We begin this term by welcoming Lucy. Lucy will be the full time teacher in EYFS with Ellie working Mondays and Fridays. Michelle, Julia and Sarah will be in bunnies working closely with the younger children helping them to establish routines and to settle.
During the “All About Me” topic children will have lots of opportunities to share interesting facts about themselves and their families and to look at similarities and differences. They will learn lots of important skills such as taking turns and listening to each other. This is a great chance for the children to get to know each other and help settle the new children in.
You will be getting letters home in book bags about learning journeys this week, please look out for these.
We have an open door policy so please do not hesitate to pop in.
Children will need wellies, a coat (when the weather gets chilly) and a water bottle. If your child is in nappies you will need to provide nappies and wipes/nappy bags and a change of clothes.
The EYFS team
Below are the sounds that will be taught throughout the year. Children will learn them in this order. Once they have learnt a sound, they will bring home a card so that they can practise at home:
These are the tricky words we will be teaching the children to read and write throughout the year:
