Another busy week!
We have started our new block of writing this week: preparing to write a set of instructions on how to drive the Snow Queen’s sleigh! We have been looking at features of a set of instructions – we know that they need to be clear and precise, include time adverbs, and we have been challenging ourselves to extend our sentences with conjunctions (and, but, so..)
In Maths, year 1 have continued their work on partitioning numbers into tens and ones, and have briefly looked at doubling and halving numbers to 20. Year 2 have been adding and subtracting any 1 digit number from a 2 digit number using a range of methods. For example, using number facts (I know that 2 + 3 = 5 so 22 + 3 = 5), number bonds to 10 (I know that 8 + 2 = 10 so 18 + 2 = 20), and the inverse (I know 2 + 3 = 5 so 5 – 3 = 2).
In Geography we watched some experts talking about the impact of climate change and took notes from this source. We were very interested in learning what fossil fuels are and ways we can help stop climate change.
In Science – a highlight of our week, I’m sure – we built a bug hotel! First, we designed our bug hotel, thinking carefully about the materials we might use and what bugs these might attract. We then had a go at making our own and placing them in the school grounds. We hope we attract a wide variety of insects!
In RE we have been looking at the symbols surrounding Easter celebrations and what these might represent. In PSHE we looked at the different food groups and discussed what it means to have a balanced diet and how this keeps us healthy. In PE we have been applying our skills of aiming at a target to reach success in our target games.
Thanks to everyone who came to Parents’ Evening, it was great catching up. Have a fab weekend!
