Welcome back everyone!
We have had a very sporty week this week! We have started our new PE topic on dance, then on Wednesday we had a visit from Mr Apps from All Stars Cricket. We had a go at throwing, fielding and batting, and everyone had a great time testing their new skills! On Friday we took a trip to Bartholomew’s for a dance festival, where they practised new moves and performed a routine.
In English we started our new topic and looked at our new class text “The Darkest Dark”, all about astronaut Chris Hadfield and his dream of being an astronaut. We thought about what our dreams were and if there was anything that would get in the way of them.
In maths, year 1 have been practising counting in groups of 2 and 10 – I can tell they have been doing lots of this at home, I am very impressed!! Year 2 have also been impressing me with their addition of two 2-digit numbers! We have been doing this by partitioning them into tens and ones, adding the tens, adding the ones, then finally adding them both together. Tricky stuff!
In History, we started our new explorers topic, and to ‘hook’ us into our learning, we thought about a place that we might want to explore and what we might need to bring on an expedition to that place.
In RE we started our new topic on Islam and started looking at one of the Pillars of Islam, Prayer. We thought about why Muslims pray and how this shows their commitment to Allah.
In PSHE we have begun our topic on ‘Families’ and thought about what makes a family, that all families don’t look the same, and what a marriage is. We thought about what our own families looked like and what makes members of our family special.
It has been such a great start to the term, I’m looking forward to the rest of it!
Have a good weekend.
