Hedgehog Class News 28.2.25

We have had a fantastic first week back, being very, very busy!

In English we have started a new class text ‘The Snow Queen’. We started off the week by using our inference skills to predict what the story may be about just by looking at the front cover and reading some excerpts from the book. We had some great ideas! We then read and acted out the story and found out if our predictions were correct. We are building up to writing a retelling of this story, but from Gerda’s point of view.

In maths, year 1 have been looking at adding and the equal symbol, and proving that adding parts together is equal to the whole. Year 2 have impressed me with how quickly they have grasped division! We divided amounts into equal groups and explained and named each part of a division equation. Tricky stuff.

In Geography we explored features of Inuit life and how they can survive in such harsh climates. In Science we went on a bird hunt. We used an identification chart and hunted for different birds that would typically be found in our habitat. We then discussed why Stanton Harcourt was a good habitat for these birds. In RE we looked at Palm Sunday and why it has this name. We made our own palm leaves and wrote messages of what we would say to Jesus. In PSHE we have been looking at healthy choices and how we can stay motivated to make these choices. In PE we have been looking at aiming at a target to build up to playing target games.

Have a great weekend!
