Hedgehog Class News 31.1.25

This week has flown by! We have been very busy and worked very hard. I also want to say how amazing their homework has been! Wednesday is one of my favourite days, where we can share what we have gotten up to for our home learning. I can really tell how hard they have worked and how engaged with our topic they are – so thank you!!

In English we have been researching information all about the Arctic, ready to write our very own non-chronological report all about it. We have investigated: the weather, the people, the location, the animals and the Northern Lights. We are now experts, and are ready to write some very factual and interesting reports next week.

In maths: year 1 have been adding within 20, using number facts to help them (if I know 2 + 3 = 5, I know that 12 + 3 = 15). Year 2 have been introduced to multiplication. We have been looking at equal groups and representing different groups of an amount with a multiplication expression.

In Geography, we learnt about the northern and southern hemisphere, and why the Poles only have two seasons. We learnt that the Earth is tilted on its axis and that in the Arctic winter they get 0 hours of daylight, whilst the South Pole gets 24 hours of daylight.

In Science we researched a variety of woodland animals. We used chromebooks to explore the woodland trust website to find out how foxes, barn owls and hazel dormice survive in their habitat.

In RE we looked at the process of Wudu, the Islamic procedure for cleansing parts of the body.

In PE we explored and practised taking a ball from the opposition, and had a game of football to put this into practice.

Have a great weekend.
