We have enjoyed another sunny week this week in Stanton.
Science
This week in Science, we carried out an experiment to investigate friction. We created ramps and pushed toy cars down them, covering the ramps with different materials such as fabric, bubble wrap, cardboard, and plastic. We carefully observed how far and how fast the cars travelled each time. We discovered that when a material created more friction, the cars did not travel as far and moved more slowly. The children really enjoyed predicting and testing their ideas like real scientists!
Phonics
We have also been working very hard on our phonics this week. In June, the Year 1 children will be taking their National Phonics Check, so we have been revisiting lots of sounds and playing fun games using flashcards to help build confidence and fluency.
English
In English, we have been writing our own versions of our class story, The Secret of Black Rock. I have loved seeing everyone’s imaginative ideas and creative storytelling. The children have worked very hard to bring their own unique twists to the story.
RE
In RE, we created posters explaining why Shabbat is important to Jewish people. We also compared this to how Christians spend their Sabbath, helping us to understand similarities and differences between religions.
Special Visitors
We were very lucky to have some members of Year 10 at Bartholomew spend time with us this week for their work experience. They were extremely helpful, supporting the children with reading and practicing phonics. The children have loved working with them and will certainly miss having them around!
I hope you all have an awesome bank holiday weekend.
