Hedgehogs class news – 15.5.26

This week in Hedgehogs Class, we have had a very busy and productive week!

Firstly, I want to say how incredibly proud I have been of all the children. Our Year 6 pupils have been working extremely hard completing their SATs this week, and the children in Hedgehogs have been wonderfully respectful around the school. They have done a fantastic job of staying calm, quiet, and considerate, helping to create a positive environment for everyone.

In English, we have been working hard on our phonics sounds and applying these to our spelling work. The children have enjoyed playing spelling games as well as practising strategies such as Look, Cover, Check to help improve their confidence and accuracy.

In Maths, our Year 1 children have been learning to partition numbers into “ten and a bit”, building their understanding of place value. Meanwhile, our Year 2 children have been exploring different calculations, spotting similarities and differences between them, and developing their reasoning skills.

In Art, we had lots of fun creating secondary colours and using our hands to print and paint imaginative creatures of our own creation. The children showed great creativity and enthusiasm during this activity!

In Science, we explored the forces of friction, gravity, and air resistance. We took our learning outside to investigate how different balls moved across different surfaces, observing how materials interact with various forces. The children really enjoyed this hands-on investigation.

We have also spent time in PSHE thinking about friendships, healthy relationships, and how to appropriately say “no” in different situations, helping the children build confidence in expressing themselves respectfully.

It has been a lovely week of learning, creativity, and teamwork in Hedgehogs Class.
