Hedgehogs class news – 17.4.26

We have had an awesome first week back in Hedgehog Class! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed some well earned rest and fun with family and friends – I can’t believe we are already into the summer term. It has been wonderful to see the children return to school with such enthusiasm and ready to learn.

We have started our exciting new topic, The Seaside. The children are already enjoying exploring seaside themes and sharing their own experiences of visiting the coast. In Geography, we have begun learning about the countries of the United Kingdom, helping the children understand where we live and how the UK is made up of different nations and islands.

In PE, we have started Dance, where the children have been moving creatively and learning how to express themselves through movement. We have also begun one of Mr Catling’s favourites – Yoga! The children have enjoyed practising stretches and poses to help build strength, balance, and mindfulness.

In Maths, both year groups have been working incredibly hard. Year 1 have been practising their skip counting and even managed to count in 2s all the way to 100, fantastic work! Year 2 have been consolidating their addition of two-digit numbers without crossing ten, in preparation for moving on to crossing ten next week.

In English, we have started our new book, The Secret of Black Rock. The children have loved diving into this magical story and have had lots of fun describing their own underwater creatures and worlds, inspired by the amazing underwater discoveries Erin makes in the story.

It has been a brilliant start to the term, and I am so proud of how well the children have settled back into school routines. I am looking forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
