Hedgehogs Class News – 27.2.26

What an awesome first week back we have had in Hedgehogs! Firstly, I wanted to say how lovely it was to hear how fantastic the class were while I was away on the Year 6 residential during the final week of last term. I was so proud to hear how well everyone behaved. This week the children have come straight back into school life, showing how respectful and responsible they can be.

In maths this week, our Year 1s have been learning how to partition two-digit numbers into ten and a bit to help them when solving problems with larger numbers. Our Year 2s have been using their knowledge of the two times table to double and halve numbers. We have spent a lot of time recently developing our understanding of multiplication, and soon we will begin looking at division.

During collective worship this week, we have been thinking about our school vision. We discussed how when a peacock has a full heart and feels proud, it fans out its beautiful tail. The Hedgehogs reflected on what makes them feel proud and how this links to our school values.

In art, we created our own peacocks using lollipop sticks, card and colour. The peacocks have a tail that we can open up and fan out. On the feathers, the children wrote things that make them proud. We will continue to add proud moments to our peacock tails throughout the term.

In science, we have started an exciting experiment that we will be carrying out over the term. We are investigating which foods birds like the most. We explored the school grounds to decide the best place to put the food and discussed how we can make sure our investigation is a fair test. This is an important skill that will help us later in the term when we prepare for the science fair. Each week we will test a different type of fruit and observe which one the birds prefer.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic in their learning this week.

Well done, Hedgehogs!
