We have had an awesome week in Hedgehogs class! ⭐
In 📚 English, we have been working on retelling our class story Lila and the Secret of Rain. The children have done a fantastic job remembering key parts of the story and using their storytelling skills.
In 🔢 Maths, the Year 1 children have been making links to what they already know to help them halve numbers and they also started to explore how to show ‘O’clock’ on an analogue clock. The Year 2 children have been learning about division, exploring what happens when a number can be split equally and what happens when it cannot be split equally.
As part of 🔬 British Science Week, we have been doing some exciting science explorations. One of our favourites was a biscuit dunking investigation! 🍪☕
We tested ginger biscuits, rich teas, bourbons and chocolate digestives to find out which biscuit tasted the best, which was the strongest for dunking, and which was the weakest. I was very surprised to see the rich teas come out on top!
The children were given the challenge and worked brilliantly in their groups to plan, carry out and analyse their own investigation.
On the last Wednesday of term, we will be holding our annual Science Fair 🔬✨ and it would be wonderful to see you all there. Over the next two weeks, I would love for the children to carry out a science investigation at home and bring their results to showcase at the fair. We have been loving our British Science Week celebrations and it would be fantastic to see what investigations the children come up with at home!
On Friday, the children made some lovely 💐 Mother’s Day cards to celebrate the amazing women in their lives.
Also on Friday, we took part in a ⚽ sponsored keepy-uppy event with the school council to raise money for our Uganda partner school 🌍. I was so impressed with everyone’s participation and enthusiasm — we definitely have some fantastic footballers in Hedgehogs class! 🏆⚽
