Owl Class New 24.04.26

This week has been full of reflection, discovery, and hands-on learning across Owl Class.

In RE, we have been exploring which of our British celebrations have their roots in Christian festivals. Some of these really surprised us — especially Pancake Day and Mother’s Day! We learned that Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) is traditionally a time to use up rich ingredients before the period of Lent begins. We also discovered that Mother’s Day comes from Mothering Sunday, when people would return to their “mother church” for a special service.

This week, we have been mastering percentages. We discussed why this skill is so important in everyday life — especially when shopping and working out discounts! We have been using ratio tables as a fantastic strategy to help us calculate percentages when we know specific values. This has really supported our confidence and accuracy when solving problems.

Many of our Year 6 pupils headed off for a transition day at Bartholomew School. They spent time familiarising themselves with the new setting and beginning to build friendships that will support them in the next stage of their journey.

Meanwhile, Year 5 and those remaining remained in school and took part in an exciting design project, constructing their own playground prototypes. They developed their cutting and joining skills and learned the importance of stabilising structures using rigid materials. It was fantastic to see such creativity, teamwork and problem-solving in action!

It has been a brilliant week of learning, reflection, and growth.
