We’ve had another busy and engaging week in Years 5 and 6!
This week, we were delighted to welcome Chris Woodcock, our local Home and Community Safety Advisor, who visited to talk to the children about the importance of staying safe near roads, fire, and water. As our pupils begin to gain more independence—some even starting to walk to school on their own—this talk provided plenty of vital information to help keep them safe at this important stage in their lives.
In English, we have begun reading our fabulous new novel, The Final Year by Matt Goodfellow. The children are already enjoying the narrative prose style and the rich characters and themes it introduces. We look forward to exploring it further over the coming weeks.
In Maths, our focus has been on the importance of rapid, accurate, and fluent recall of multiplication facts. We have been discussing how this knowledge underpins so many areas of our mathematical learning—from fractions and division to problem solving and beyond. The children understand how essential it is to have these facts securely at their fingertips!
At this stage in our learning, links between home and school are essential. Only a handful of home learning books have been returned so far. Regular spelling practice, daily reading, and frequent multiplication recall at home all make a real difference to children’s confidence and progress.
