This week, we have been developing our empathy skills, learning to consider situations from different points of view. On Tuesday, we walked to the Stanton Harcourt War Memorial to honour the soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom. The children showed great respect and reflection during this visit.
In our PSHE sessions, we have been exploring the topic of racism—discussing its definition, where and when it can occur, and ways we can work together to challenge it. The children designed their own ‘Stand Up to Racism’ ribbons, showing creativity and compassion in their designs and ideas.
In English, we have continued reading our fabulous new novel, The Final Year by Matt Goodfellow. The children are already enjoying the narrative prose style and the rich characters and themes it introduces.
In Maths, our focus continues to be on the importance of rapid, accurate and fluent recall of multiplication facts. We have been discussing how this knowledge underpins so many areas of our mathematical learning—from fractions and division to problem solving and beyond. As we move into our new focus of fractions, we will need this knowledge move than ever!
