This week in Owl Class, we have been exploring the skill of flashback writing, identifying and analysing the key features that authors use to transport readers between the present and the past. We are looking forward to applying these techniques in our own flashback narratives based on the daring feat of Philippe Petit, the French high-wire artist who walked on a tightrope suspended between the Twin Towers in New York City.
In Geography, our focus for the remainder of the term is the USA, where we will be exploring its vast physical and human features. We began this week by challenging some of our misconceptions about the country. While many of us pictured warm, sandy beaches, fast food and sunny weather, we quickly discovered that the USA is a country of extremes, with everything from deserts and tropical coastlines to glaciers, mountains and bustling cities. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the USA is also one of the host nations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, making it an especially relevant country to study!
