Owl Class News 26.09.25

This week, Owl Class has been fully engaged in lively learning across the curriculum.

In English, we took part in a heated factual debate, exploring the question: Would it have been better to live in Sparta or Athens? Pupils prepared arguments for both sides, drawing on their knowledge of daily life, culture, education, and the roles of men and women in Ancient Greece. The debate became very animated, with strong points made about Sparta’s discipline and military strength compared to Athens’ focus on democracy, art, and philosophy. It was wonderful to see everyone listening carefully, responding thoughtfully, and using evidence to support their views.

In Science, we have been investigating the relationship between animal size and heart rate. Working like true researchers, we collected and analysed data on the body mass and pulse rates of different animals to test the hypothesis that larger animals generally have slower heart rates. Although our data supported this overall trend, we discovered several anomalies that did not fit the pattern. Rather than ignoring them, we considered possible reasons why these differences might exist. It made us consider the importance of questioning results and thinking critically in scientific investigations.
