It has been a lovely, busy week in Owl Class with several highlights. One of these was definitely our Buddy Reading session with Hedgehogs Class on Tuesday. It is lovely to be able to share the joy of reading with others in the school and the children in Owl Class engaged really well with supporting and encouraging the younger children as well as enjoying the time together. On Tuesday afternoon, we went on a village walk as part of our History topic of World War II. We visited the war memorial and wrote down the details of the servicemen remembered there. We then went on to Hayfield Green, the site of RAF Stanton Harcourt during the war. We learned about Winston Churchill flying from Stanton Harcourt to the Casablanca Conference where he met President Roosevelt. On Thursday, we had another chance to be outside, with our class reward trip to the park. Amongst all this activity, the children have been writing some excellent explanation texts of why World War II began, while in Maths we have begun our Fractions unit, looking at equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions using highest common factors.
