Squirrel Class News 07.06.24

What a lovely first week back we’ve had – and I cannot believe we are in our final term of Year 1! How time has flown.

We have been working especially hard in phonics this week in preparation for our check next week – recapping all of our old sounds and blending these.

In maths we have been doing some really tricky equations, going over 10 and using our number bond knowledge within 10 to solve equations to 20. We have been using tens frames and number lines to help us with these tricky numbers!

In English we have been writing free verse poetry about our class text, The Storm Whale by Benji Davies. We have created some impressive expanded noun phrases to put in our poems, using ambitious vocab that we’ve found in a thesaurus.

In Geography we have been practising the skills we will be using for our investigation at the seaside on Monday – measuring pebbles and recording their shape too.

In RE we have been continuing looking at Judaism and thinking about the Creation story and how Jewish people believe there is one God.

In Science we have started our new topic: living things and their habitats, learning all about MRSNERG.

We have a busy week next week! We are thoroughly looking forward to the seaside trip, please ensure you arrive at school promptly so that we can get going asap. It should be a great day out!

Please continue to read at home, and read words in everyday life, this helps us prepare even more for the check next week – I am positive everybody will smash it.

Have a great weekend, and see you Monday.
