Welcome to the Spring Term and to 2019!
We hope everyone has had a wonderful festive break and you are ready for an exciting term, packed full of fabulous learning.
Owl class have hit the ground running and have already got stuck in to their topic ‘Rockin’ Romans’. Both Year 5 and 6 have been researching Mount Vesuvius and the famous eruption of 79AD, which devastated the city of Pompeii. In English during the first half of this term, there will be a focus on narrative writing for Year 5 and recounts for Year 6 and then all of the children will be looking at Roman myths and legends. It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm towards our topic and the staff have already been impressed by their general knowledge.
SATs clubs will begin for the Year 6 children on Tuesday 15th /Thursday 17th January. Mrs Tingley & Mrs Atherstone will be running the Tuesday sessions (focusing on Maths), while Thursdays will be led by Mrs Clark (English focus). We are also very fortunate to have Jane Fleet working with us on the Tuesday sessions. Jane, who is mum to Sophie in Year 6, is a teacher at Standlake School, but she has kindly offered to come and support the children and we are extremely grateful to her for giving up her time.
We will try and update our class news as regularly as possible to keep you informed about what the children have been up to. As ever, if any parents/carers have any questions or issues that they wish to discuss with a member of staff, please don’t hesitate to email us and we will organise a time for a meeting.
